Insurance uncoverage...

If I am reading the policy correctly, it seems as though our loss may not be covered by our hurricane insurance. There is an exclusion in there for 'tidal surges' and the like that I'm afraid they may try to invoke to keep from paying our claim.

Please pray that they will look upon us favorably and will find a way to pay.

We are also having a difficult time contacting any of the insurance providers, banks, etc... I'm sure this will continue for quite some time.

I think we will head out shortly to try to find gasoline and a decent meal. In the last few days we've eaten lots of chips, pop-tarts, etc... We did have one solid meal last night of burgers, hot dogs and beer courtesy of Bobby's mom.

Batch,

Amanda sent me your link. I am oh so sorry to see the result of this disaster. You and Holly are in our thoughts and prayers. If y'all need anything, and I do mean anything, don't hesitate to ask. Baltimore is nice in the fall if you want to stay with us. Good luck with insurance. I can tell you only from my experience that All-state was good to us when Allison hit Houston. I hope you are as lucky.

Batch, I am happy that you survived. At the same time, I feel really sorry about your house. I have been looking at the devastation on the web, but I had not heard about anybody I know suffering damage until now. There must be more. My thoughts are with you and everybody down there. I have a hard time thinking of what I can offer to help, but let me know if you think of anything.

Batch, First let me say how sorry I am about your loss, but thank God you guys did the right thing and evacuated. Living in Florida I am always tempted to just ride it out. I will never attempt to ride out a major huricane based on what you have shown me.

I hate that you have to worry with insurance concerns on top of this. Was this flood insurance that excluded tidal surges or the home owners policy? Here in Florida flood insurance covers rising water, homeowners covers anything but rising water. I'm am no insurance expert, but I would think the storm surge would definitely be considered rising water.

Stay safe and God speed,

Scott Quin

I glad you guys are ok.
If you need a place to stay in Houston my in-laws have a house in Katy that they do not use very often. I am sure we can hook you up. Let me know if there is anything Kara or I can do.
We will keep praying for you and your family.

Batch,

It's been a long time. Ryan Nash gave me an update and sent this link. Sorry that I read about you under these circumstances, but glad that you are safe.

The way I understand it, unfortunately, hurricane insurance is basically wind insurance--hence the "tidal surge" clause. Of course, logic says that the surge is a result of wind, but since when is the insurance industry logical? Surges are covered in flood insurance, which I think is only provided by the government. Even then, they depreciate the value of the home for the coverage. Better get a lawyer!

Other option is go to fema.gov and see what your options are if your run into the insurance road block. The sooner you're on the list the better.

Yell next time you're in B'ham.

We'll pray,
Karl (Dough Boy) and Mara

Dear David (if I've understood to whom I am writing!),
I am Rebecca Jones, wife of Dr. Peter Jones from Westminster Seminary in California. Our best man, Mike Barbera is pastor of Good Shepherd Church in Pass Christian. We do not have contact numbers for him, but have been thinking of him and praying for him, his church and his family. I wondered if you know them and if you know how they are doing.
I heard about the church on the news - they mentioned a church that was intact in Biloxi, and it seemed it might be yours. We pray that this huge catastrophe will be the occasion for many to come to Christ.

Thank you and the Lord bless you.
