And the homschoolers said AMEN

A resolution was introduced today by a pastor at the Presbyterian Church in America General Assembly that encourages officers and members to remove their children from government schools. This is just a motion and not an official denominational statement.

I doubt that this will even get voted on this year (sounds like it will go to committee) and even if it does go to vote it will likely fail. But the language of the resolution is compelling. It will be interesting to see what sort of discussion this generates.

Link here for the WorldNetDaily article and here for the PCAGA blog entry.

What do you think... is the resolution well written? Is it possible to send your children to government schools and raise them to be Godly young men & women? Is it optimal to do so?

UPDATE 6/16/05 12:22 PM CST: Lost of interesting comments here and here on the merits of this issue.

You know we were home schooled. I can't really speak for the Public School side of things but I'm very glad I had what I had for my education. I think it gave me a greater level of maturity than I would have had with a "traditional peer group" from a public school. I do think the public schools would be much better if every Christian was on the board, and teaching, and sending their kids. As a resident of a town with level 2 schools in Mississippi I will not be sending my kids in to a system that is so sick. I do affirm the truths that we should be IN the world and not OF the world, and I think that means we should be involved in our communities. But HECK no, I'm not sending my kids to public school, not here.

Back to the resolution, I think that they have a very valid point. I also think that it is going to cause many debates and raise tensions in the public / private / home school debate. I do think that a child can be better nurtured in Christ in a HS / Priv. Sch than in the Socialist school systems. That just makes sense.
